WALK4HEARING AWARD

Congratulations to the HLAA Manhattan Chapter!

At the Awards Breakfast sponsored by Ultratec at Convention 2010 in Milwaukee, HLAA staff Ronnie Adler and Rebecca Lander had the pleasure of presenting the HLAA Manhattan Chapter with the Walk4Hearing Award. The award recipient is a chapter that has used their Walk4Hearing funds locally in outstanding, creative and practical ways to make a positive impact on the HLAA mission. After expenses and the allocation of funds to both the national office and participating alliances, the Manhattan Chapter received an amazing $44,000 from the total 2009 New York City Walk4Hearing proceeds.

The Manhattan Chapter used their proceeds from the Walk in a way that was of greatest benefit to the most people. Some of their projects included: a hearing loss informational video, which is currently in production; allocated funds to The Children’s Hearing Institute, an after-school tutoring program for elementary students with hearing loss; three scholarships for college-bound students with hearing loss; community outreach and communications; CART services for chapter meetings; and for the installation of a PA and loop system for the community room of the local library. All chapters that are involved with various 2010 Walks will have an opportunity to be the winner at the next HLAA Convention in Washington, DC.
