One out of every 5 people in American has some sort of hearing loss. I am one of them and I am asking you to help me to help others like me.
Hearing loss is a personal issue that can impact people in terms of interpersonal relationships, academic success, professional advancement etc. I know there are more critical medical conditions and more pressing social, political and civil rights concerns. This community of people walk amongst you every day, and yet are virtually invisible. A community that includes children and teenagers and adults and the elderly. It includes people you work with, people you live with, people you love, people you see every day, people you havent seen in a long time.
Please look at us when you speak to us. Please do not get annoyed if we ask you to repeat what you said. And please do not tell us that it is not important becaue it makes us feel not important. Acknowledging the hearing loss is the the first step to support. The next step is recognizing that we are not all the same. Some have implants. Some have hearing aids. Some sign. But too many ignore the problem or cannot afford to address it properly.
So please make a donation and help us to raise money for the thousands with hearing loss in our communities.
