Greetings to you!
Thank you for visiting the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA)/Walk4Hearing website and particularly my fundraiser page.
I've struggled with hearing loss and was in denial about it for many years. Due to experiencing more difficulty and challenges at work and other settings in communicating with others, I was retested in August 2017 for a third time. I also learned during this test that hearing in my left ear had regressed since the previous test. My hearing impairment can't be corrected with surgery and I finally had to accept wearing hearing aids.
Of course, I didn't feel good about this and became very discouraged. As a Christian woman of faith, I knew for sure that I couldn't stay in this place of discouragement. I recalled something that was instilled in me some time ago in so many words. It was to use whatever I'm dealing with to get educated and help encourage others who are facing the same. Along with seeking emotional support, I started researching more about my diagnosis and the different types of hearing loss. I came across the HLAA website and decided that not only was I going to participate as a walker, but volunteer as well.
The more I read stories and testimonies from others, I realized that I'm not alone. I spoke to my ears and reassured them that they will adjust to their new companions. By the way, they are getting along very well. Most importantly, this is an opportunity for me not only to make a difference in my life, but in the lives of many others.
You can be a part of making a difference too! I encourage you if you haven't already to carefully review this site with information about the Walk4Hearing. I'm supporting the DMV walk which will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2017 and the HLAA-DC Chapter. You may make a monetary donation towards my $1000 goal for this particular walk or support the organization at any time. You have the option for your contribution to be anonymous. Be sure to pay close attention to the walk dates and locations. There may be one in your local area coming up soon.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
Peace and Blessings!
