I was born hearing-impaired because my mom had Rubella at a time when it was an epidemic: in the mid 1960's. It wasn't until I was 4 years old when my mom realized I couldn't hear and then got my 1st hearing aids. I grew up mainstreamed and currently know some sign language. Today, I would like both hearing and deaf people in my life, and perhaps that is a good thing, so someday I can close the gap between the hearing and the deaf and also teach each of these populations some things about the other populatons. According to the walk4hearing site, I am one of 48 million Americans who has some form of hearing loss; it is the 3rd most common situation, after heart disease and arthritis. Please join me on the Sunday, May 21st walk and/or donate to this cause...any donation is appreciated! If you'd rather send me a check made payble to Walk4Hearing (or cash), please mail this check to me at: Christine Pestillo, 57 Windermere Ridge Dr, Southington, CT 06489. Thank you!
