I have NF2 and have lost hearing in both of my ears not to mention collateral damage to my facial nerve and loss of balance. I now have bilateral implants and am able to understand about 90% of what people say. I have been working with a speech pathologist to improve my ability to understand speech, but of course those noisy situations are always a bummer.
I want to provide to others the help I received from SHHH (now HLAA) when I lost my hearing. The support I received was life changing and the help and support continues to this very day from people who care, people who are members of HLAA or are otherwise involved in HLAA. I want to help change the lives of others with hearing loss and to improve the quality of life for the better, for people with hearing loss, just like HLAA members were there for me. I want to change the way the world thinks about hearing loss and the way people with hearing loss think about themselves.
Thanks so much for your support. Hope to see you at the Walk on May 21@ Walnut Hill Park, New Britain, 9 AM -- BE THERE!! Step Up for People With Hearing Loss!
