Layla Walk4Hearing Featured Walker
Showing Support and Giving Back
By Lauren Kunitz
We started Team Layla to support our beautiful, smart and funny daughter, Layla Jordan. When we learned Layla was born with moderate profound hearing loss, we received an outpouring of support from doctors, therapists, family and friends. Layla has received phenomenal care and was wearing hearing aids by 7 weeks old. Through all her hard work in therapy, Layla’s listening and speaking skills are above average for her age. No one can believe how talkative she is at such a young age!
The Chicago Walk4Hearing enables us to raise money and give back to those who have helped us along this journey. We would not be where we are today without the technologies, advocacy, love and care we have received. When we first started Team Layla, we had no idea how many people would walk with us and donate to our team. We were shocked to have over 30 friends join our team. In our 2nd year walking we raised almost $6,000!! One thing we love about the fundraising is that we are raising money for the HLAA, as well as a local chapter that we have a strong, personal connection to.
We will continue to look forward to the Walk each year! It is such a special time to raise money for organizations that have meant the world to us. We love getting together with our family and friends on Walk day to show our support to Layla. We are incredibly proud of our little girl and we know she will continue to exceed all of the high expectations we have for her!
