Brett Trimble Walk4Hearing Featured Walker

A Fundraiser Who Loves to Play Baseball, Swim, Ride His Bike and Walk4Hearing!
Hi! I am Brett Trimble. I just turned 10 and I am going into fifth grade. I live in Yardley, Pennsylvania, with my family my dad, mom, twin brother Bryce, and my little brother Brady and my little sister Anna (they are also twins!). My favorite things to do are play baseball, hockey, Wii, Guitar Hero, and play my violin. I also love to swim and ride my bike. This is my second year doing Walk4Hearing.
A few weeks before I turned three, I learned that I am hard of hearing. Ever since then I have been wearing hearing aids and using an FM system. Because I couldn’t really talk, I also went to speech and audio verbal therapy classes for a long time. It was very hard for me in the beginning. When I first got my hearing aids, I would pull them out and throw them. After a while, I got used to them and now I forget they are even in my ears.
Last year I decided that I wanted to do the Walk4Hearing ™ because I wanted to help others like me. My goal was $100 but I raised exactly $2,000! I raised the money by putting signs up in my school, sending letters to my friends and neighbors, and just telling people about the walk. I was very excited to be the very first person to cross the finish line at the New Jersey Walk4Hearing last year. A few weeks later, I was interviewed by a newspaper and received a Meritorious Efforts Young Citizen Award. I felt very proud to receive an award for helping others.
This year I am happy to walk in my state of Pennsylvania on September 26 at Ridley Creek State Park. The day of the walk is a lot of fun! My friends and family walk with me. We meet a lot of interesting people and get new information. I recently attended the Walk4Hearing ™ Kickoff event for the Pennsylvania and it was great!
I was one of the speakers and spoke about the walk and about raising money. My team, “Brett’s Brigade,” has already started fundraising this year. My mom’s friends had a Premier jewelry party and I was guest of honor and received a portion of the sales for my cause. I also had a yard sale and lemonade stand which raised over $400.
It’s important to raise money so that people can know more about hearing loss and also so people can get the equipment that they need. If we didn’t do this, a lot of people will miss out on important and fun things.
It feels really good to help others, so get your walking shoes on and start raising some money!
